Sleep is essential for physical health, mental health, and daily functioning.

It is normal to have occasional trouble sleeping, but persistent sleep difficulties can affect mood, energy, concentration, and overall wellbeing.

Signs & Symptoms of Sleep Problems

Sleep difficulties can greatly impact on our quality of life and may include problems such as:

  • Trouble falling or staying asleep

  • Waking too early

  • Poor sleep quality

  • Daytime fatigue or sleepiness

  • Difficulty concentrating or remembering

  • Irritability or mood changes

  • Worry about sleep​

When To Get Help & What Can We Do?

If sleep problems are persistent or affecting your life, seeking help can be valuable.

Approaches can include:​

  • Relaxation and mindfulness techniques

  • Managing other psychological aspects that may be impacting on your sleep such as stress and worry

  • Improving sleep environment and routines

  • Cognitive behavioural therapy for insomnia (CBT I)

  • Medical input to assess other aspects of your health that may be impacting on your sleep such as hormones
